Good Neighbors Tanzania is looking for individual to join our highly motivated team in the following role;

Position: Agronomist

Reports to: Income Generation Manager
Location: Nambinzo – Songwe
Contract Duration: 1 Year (Renewable subject to funding availability and performance)

Objective

Good Neighbors Tanzania – Head Office is looking for a suitable candidate for the mentioned post, who will be responsible for develop better planting, cultivation, and harvesting techniques, improving crop yield, and solving problems for local farmers.
Furthermore, is responsible for the overall management and implementation of the agro- activities and resources within the area of responsibilities she/he analyses the agricultural situation of the region. Assessments and plans agro interventions in consultation with the respective field management, and technical supervisor in the agricultural project.

 

Duties and Responsibilities
Developing better planting, cultivation, and harvesting techniques, improving crop yield, and solving problems for farmers.
Researching and promoting agricultural strategies to counter the effects of changes in soil, climate, weather, and pest damage.
Ensure new developments in crop varieties, disease and pest control, crop rotation, and tillage systems are implemented in farming.
Working with farmers to determine the best method of improving crop production.
Keeping detailed records regarding fields, farmers and crops.
Developing planting and irrigation plans, schedules, budgets, and timelines.
Assesses crop production on the farm.
Develop demonstrations farms that farmers will learn within the project area.
Boost crop yields but also control pests and weeds and protect the environment.
Developing better planting, cultivation, and harvesting techniques, improving crop yield, and solving problems for farmers.
Researching and promoting agricultural strategies to counter the effects of changes in soil, climate, weather, and pest damage.
Responsible for the documentation of project reports, including but not limited to monthly and quarterly reports, lessons learned, meeting minutes and M & E reports.
Required to attend at least 3 courses as provided by GN academy including any other courses provided by GNTZ or by any other training institution, aiming to develop knowledge and capacity in own work.
Required to achieve 90% of individual and departmental annual targets.

Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in agronomy, agriculture, Crop science, horticulture crop production, agricultural science or a related field.
Minimum 2 years of agronomy work experience.
In-depth knowledge of soil and crop principles.
Demonstrate capacities to establish and maintain strong collaborative working
relationships with government officials, local organizations, Co-operatives, communities and other stakeholders.
Proficient in MS Office.
Outstanding research and analytical skills.
Effective written and verbal communication skills
