As part of the Burundian Refugee Response in Tanzania, DRC work in the sectors of camp management, community services, Protection, General Food Distribution, Livelihoods, and WASH/small infrastructure. Our vision is to assist refugees, internally displaced people and their host communities to a dignified life. We protect lives and human rights and empower beneficiaries throughout conflict displacement by providing shelter, food, and hope in terms of work, education and integration towards a sustainable future. Mtendeli camp, one of the three designated refugee camps in the Western Tanzania-Kigoma region, closed on 6 December 2021 and over 21,000 refugees and asylum seekers were relocated to Nduta refugee camp. There are limited opportunities for self-reliance and livelihoods for refugees, and women and girls face protection risks. DRC Tanzania delivers integrated multi-sectoral assistance combining CCCM, livelihood programming, individual and community-based protection, general food distribution, as well environmental preservation and regeneration. DRC also implements livelihoods, food security and climate resilience projects through agroecological-based resilience design in ecologically degraded zones of Burundi.
