Don Bosco Vocational Training Centre had its humble beginning in 1986 run by the Catholic parish of St. Peter’s , Oysterbay. It was handed over to the Salesians of Don Bosco, a Roman Catholic organization founded by St. John Bosco in January 1990. Fr. Mathew Puthumana SDB was the first director of this institution . Today Don Bosco V.T.C. Oysterbay offers training in five technical courses of Carpentry, Electrical, Mechanics, Secretarial and Welding together with Aluminum Works. We have a new course of Tailoring lasting just six months open to anyone. We also offer various computer packages. Those who have completed at least Form 4 can apply from September and the courses begin in January.
All the courses take three years, except Secretarial which is for two years.
Our approach: DBNET coordinates the Salesians’ development work in Tanzania by advising, evaluating, planning and managing projects across Tanzania to achieve sustainable development.
How we work: Over the years, DBNET has established public and private partnerships to implement its projects, an important factor that ensures sustainability of its interventions. In order to implement the various projects DBNET:
Identifies the development needs in the areas under the Salesian Influence
Draws up project proposals to satisfy the identified
needs;
Manages financial resources outside the country to implement projects with the support of Salesian NGO networks abroad
Trains local partners in Project Management
Monitors and assesses the implemented projects
Promotes strategic planning process involved in Salesian projects
