Job Summary
The GM is responsible for the day to day operations of the hotel through effective planning, leading, organising and controlling hotel operational activities and resources to achieve business goals for service excellence, profitability and maintaining relevant star level requirements
Main Responsibilities
- Devise and implement policies and procedures that will establish the Hotel guest’s preferred choice of hotel among the rest
- Plan activities and allocate responsibilities to achieve the most efficient operating model
- Supervise work at all levels with clearly set performance objectives
- Reinforce full compliance to standard operating procedures, policies and service standards
- Serve as in-house coach to champion mission implementation
- Hire and onboard new staff as well as leading team development
- Manage budget, analyze and interpret financial information and monitor sales and profits
- Drive sales with objective of increasing occupancy rate and profitability
- Develop and implement an intuitive and efficient marketing strategy to promote hotel’s services
- Communicate with clients when appropriate and provide support as needed, including handling complaints and overseeing service recovery procedure
- Collaborate with external parties such as suppliers and travel agencies to ensure successful partnerships
- Scheduling and overseeing maintenance and repairs
- Inspect facilities regularly and ensure compliance with licensing laws, health and safety and other statutory regulations.
- Ensure security is effective
- Prepare business reports on a monthly basis (minimum)
- Perform other duties as required
Requirements:
- Minimum of 6 years proven experience in a similar role in Tanzania
- Excellent written and spoken English and Kiswahili; knowledge of other languages is a plus
- Understanding of hotel management best practices and relevant laws and guidelines
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office; knowledge of hotel management software (PMS) is an advantage
- Excellent customer service skills
- Hotel business acumen
- Demonstrable aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving
- Reliable with an ability to multi-task and work well under pressure
- Outstanding leadership and teamwork skills
- Degree in Business Administration, Hotel/Hospitality Management or relevant field
