About Itaga Seminary
Itaga Seminary is a secondary school in Tanzania with The National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA) registration number S0111 – Known as Shule ya Sekondari Itaga Seminary
St. Charles Junior Seminary of Itaga, nestling at the foot of a west of a beautifully wooded range of small hills, is situated about 9 miles Northwest of the historical town of Tabora. Built on a slightly high ground, the Seminary overlooks the mission centre of Itaga from the East, and shares about half a square mile of plot with it. It was on April 4th 1909, when reverend Father Anton van Aaken was negotiating with Siegal, a German government official, about acquiring a plot on which to build a mission station. After a long dispute with Ntemi Nzilandihu of Kalunde who was objecting to the missionary’s plan to build the mission on his ancestral sacred ground, Father van Aaken won German government official approval to go ahead, in spite of everything. In 1912, having got the final approval of the actual boundaries from Mr. Prompeler, Fr. Van Aaken signed the papers of land acquisition, on the basis of German land hold law. So this was the beginning of the plot on which the mission centre of Itaga and the Seminary now stand.
