Position: Library Assistant

Duty Stations: Usa River – Arusha, Tanzania
Job Summary
Assist with library management and procedures.
Reporting To: Acting Deputy Headmaster – Academics.
Working relationships: All academic & business teams.
Key Responsibilities & Tasks
To be responsible for library security and the safety and that library property is not lost or stolen.
Opening and closing the Library.
Bell ringing and time keeping.
Good behaviour of self and fellow Employees.
To assist in making certain that students follow the Library Rules
To correctly manage circulation procedures, including borrowing and returning of books.
To manage overdue payments using the library software programs correctly and submitting them on time.
To correctly enter cataloguing data into the library software program.
To assist with library acquisition procedures.
To conduct basic library instruction to groups or individuals.
To carry out collection maintenance procedures, including covering and reinforcing new books with relevant materials, processing non book materials, and repairing worn or damaged items as required.
To shelve items in accurate Dewey decimal classification and /or alphabetical order, to complete regular shelf checking.
To maintain the textbook storerooms and keep them tidy at all times.
To assist keeping the Library clean and tidy.
To undertake any other duties that may be reasonably assigned by the immediate supervisor, Academic Leaders, Manager, Directors and the Employer.
Other Duties
Periodically suggest improvements to the department’s procedure and submit to your supervisor for approval.
Participate and support fellow staff in school mission related activities such as all School Celebration Days throughout the year.
Participate in student selection process, in particular working after hours on rest days and public holidays up to 20 Saturdays per annum.
Perform any other duties as assigned by Head of Department, Manager and Deputy Director and the Employer.
Qualification, Skills and Attributes
Certificate or Diploma qualifications in Library.
Proficient in English language.
A library qualification and/or previous library experience.
Confidence, strength and ability to manage secondary school students.
Other Relevant Information: Travel between campuses will be required.
