Biography

Isaya Yunge is an unshakable optimist, futurist, and visionary thinker with a rare intellect. With a passion for entrepreneurship and technology, Isaya is an enthusiast who turns ideas into reality, and is a tireless advocate for youth involvement in creating innovative solutions that impact people’s lives. Isaya Yunge was recognized by Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 as a promising change-maker in the continent and received “The Queens Young Leaders Award 2018” from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, for his work using technology to impact communities and lives with sustainable solutions. As an alumni of the Harvard Ministerial Leadership Program, Isaya is passionate about advocating for a tech startup friendly environment, with the goal of inspiring innovation and African technological advancement.

He was named amongst the 50 Most Influential Young Tanzania’s in 2019 and he spoke at the G8 Summit in Berlin Germany at the age of 17, after being selected as the UNICEF Africa Youth Ambassador at the G8 2007.

Isaya Yunge is the founder and chief executive officer at Somaapps where he is responsible for the company’s corporate strategy, partnerships, expansion, chief go-to-market and commercialization of its products and services. Previously, Isaya served as chief innovation officer at the The Exchange, where he played an instrumental role in leading the company’s transformation from a startup to growth and market dominance in East Africa as one of the most desirable and innovative investment news line.

From 2006 to 2007 at UNICEF through the Ministry Health, Community Development, Gender, Senior and Children, in 2014 he led transformation strategy from concept to delivery of the Student Health Insurance at the Institute Of Finance Management where he served as Prime Minister of the Student Government. Prior to IFM, Isaya spent ten years at turning ideas into reality in addressing social needs through simple solutions, where he led product ideation and brand development for a variety of Startups and SME’s garnering a variety of international recognitions including the G8 Summit 2007, and the World Forum For Democracy as a transformational entrepreneurial leader.

Isaya Yunge is among the Most Influential Young Tanzanian- Tanzania promissing Youth


 

Through hard work and perseverance , Isaya Yunge spoke at the G8 Summit in Berlin at the age of 17 due to his contributions in creating social solutions addressing community challenges, which also led him to be selected as the UNICEF African Youth Ambassador at the G8 Summit 2007 and worked as UNICEF African youth ambassador to the G8. While at university, he supported the establishment of the first health insurance scheme.

He graduated from the Institute of Finance Management with a Bachelor’s degree in Insurance and Risk Management, where he also served as the Prime Minister of the student’s government.

In 2014, he became curious about the tech industry, particularly the app business. That year, he attended a talk about the fourth industrial revolution, the sharing economy and collaborative commons, by Jeremy Rifkin, an American economist. It was affirmation he would one day solve Africa’s problems through digital technology.

He then founded SomaApps, a scholarship-matching app that lists and matches students with thousands of domestic and international scholarships. His aim is to accelerate the advent of mobile software technologies, artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things in Africa. He employs 12 people. Within just two years, they have helped 550 students.

Along his journey, Isaya has collected numerous awards. Among them, the Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 listing in 2018, was recognized by Her Majesty the Queen of the United Kingdom, as The Queen’s Young Leader 2018 and he won the Startup Turkey Award as Top three startup in the world.

SomaApps now also provides people with a list of internships from all around the globe and provides access to thousands of fully funded conferences happening around the world. The company has also launched Somafit, a mobile health and fitness personal guide and fitness watch.

2006 –Elected to become the chairperson of the Junior Council of the United republic of Tanzania.

2007 – Spoke at the G8 Summit at the age of 17 years old.

2014 –Elected to become the Prime minister of the student’s government at the Institute of finance Management.

2016 –Started Somaaps technologies, a tech startup that is growing exponentially in Tanzania.

2017 – Won the GSMA Mobile Money Africa Hachathon as best startup in Africa.
