The sugar millers remain in the Premier League thanks to a 3-2 aggregate victory over Prisons in two promotion/relegation play-off ties that took place at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya and Manungu Complex Stadium in Morogoro.

Prisons succumbed to a 3-1 defeat to the Morogoro side in the first leg which took place in Mbeya, with attacker Jaffary Kibaya netting a brace and defender Salum Kanoni scoring the other goal for the latter.

In the second leg, Prisons put on spirited displays and notched a 1-0 win over Mtibwa Sugar at the latter’s backyard two days back that however hardly helped the former.

Mayanga said it was not easy for his players to fight in those games, but they have mostly fought for their team and achieved their goal after finding themselves battling it out in the playoffs.

”I congratulate my players for the good work they have done, it has certainly not been easy to achieve this, their fight has been a joy for all Mtibwa fans,” the tactician revealed.

The gaffer noted: ”All that remains is to look at how to prepare for the new Premier League season so that we can participate well and not repeat the mistakes that brought us to play-offs for the 2021/22 season.”

He revealed: ”I will sit down with the officials and advise them on technical issues to strengthen the few areas in our squad.” ”I am confident we will succeed in dealing with the mistakes that have been repeated over and over again,” Mayanga pointed out.

Mtibwa Sugar has played the top flight’s promotion/relegation play-offs for the second season in a row, following their side’s poor performance in Premier League games and finding themselves falling into the trap.

In 2021/22 NBC Premier League, Mtibwa Sugar finished 13th with 31 points, winning seven matches, drawing 10, and losing 13.

As for Prisons, they will continue to play other promotion/relegation play-off matches against JKT Tanzania that won this season’s Championship promotion/relegation play-off ties against Kitayosce.

JKT Tanzania garnered a 3-1 aggregate win over Kitayosce in the knockout duels.

Prisons will be away to JKT Tanzania in the first to be held on July 9, before the former finishes the remaining leg at Sokoine Stadium on July
