The Livestock Training Agency (LITA) is an Executive Agency established on 1st September 2011 under Executive Agency Act No. 30 of 1997 and its Amendments Cap 245 of year 2007.

LITA carries the functions which were performed by Directorate of Research, Training and Extension under by then the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries Development.

LITA is mandated to conduct Livestock training, production applied research and consultancy services in the areas of Animal Health and Production. Currently, LITA is managing eight (8) outpost Campuses namely Tengeru, Mpwapwa, Morogoro, Madaba, Buhuri, Temeke, Mabuki and Kikulula with capacity of 2,600 students per year. In order to perform its mandated functions the Chief Executive Officer is assisted by the three Directors and two heads of Units; Director of production, Director of Business support, Director of Training, Research and Consultancy, Head of Internal unit and Head of Procurement management Unit.

LITA campuses offer long courses at certificate (NTA level 4&5) and Diploma (NTA level 5&6) levels.

Courses offered are: Diploma in Animal Health and Production, Diploma in Veterinary Laboratory Technology , Diploma in Range Management and Tsetse control, Certificate in Animal Health and Production and Certificate in Veterinary Laboratory Technology. In addition various farmers tailor made courses are offered on demand.

The main objectives of LITA are as follows:

i. Enrollment of trainees for long animal health and production training programs Increased;

ii. Productivity of Agency farms improved;

iii. Applied research and consultancy services conducted

iv. Infrastructure to provide services improved

v. Financial management improved

vi. Human resources management strengthened; and

vii. Crosscutting issues (HIV/AIDS, gender, diversity, good governance and Environment addressed

LITA Campuses are strategically located in different Agro ecological zones which are easily accessible and give an opportunity for the Agency to capture customers in a wide range.

The Agency is also responsible in providing consultancy services and applied research in Animal Health and Production. Moreover LITA is involved in Production of livestock, Livestock products and crops e.g. beef, diary poultry, fish, ducks, pigs, sheep, and goats. Furthermore LITA produces Agricultural crop products like pasture, maize, sunflower, horticultural products and other tree products.

With motivated management team, staff and dedicated students LITA had transformed its Campuses to a positive change. At the moment LITA has made work and study environment ascertained by both staff and students.
