VACANCIES AT UNIVERSITY OF DAR ES SALAAM

The University of Dar es Salaam invites applications from suitably qualified Tanzanians to be considered for immediate employment to fill the following vacant posts: 

  1. Job Title: Laboratory Scientist III (2 posts) in the following 

University Units: College of Natural and Applied Sciences: 

(a) Qualifications and Experience: 

  1. Laboratory Scientist III – Department of Chemistry 

Applicant should possess BSc. in Chemistry or its equivalent from a recognized institution. 

  1. Laboratory Scientist III – Department of Physics 

Applicant should possess BSc. in Physics or its equivalent from a recognized institution. 

(b) Main Duties: 

  • Organizes practicals for undergraduate students; 
  • Assists in all technical duties requiring a higher degree of planning and design competence in the areas of student’s practical/projects; 
  • Assists academic staff in research and development and consultancy activities; 
  • Plans and supervises maintenance of laboratory facilities; 
  • Provides guidance to technicians and Laboratory Assistants in their daily activities; 
  • Performs any other duties assigned by one’s reporting officer. 

(c) Salary Scale: PUSS 2.1 

  1. Job Title: Laboratory Engineer III (1 post) 

College of Engineering: Department of Transportation and Geotechnical Engineering 

(a) Qualifications and Experience: 

Applicant should possess BSc in Civil Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized institution. 

UNIVERSITY OF DAR ES SALAAM 

(b) Main Duties: 

  • Organizes practicals for undergraduate students; 
  • Participates in consultancy projects under close supervision of senior staff; 
  • Assists academic staff in their research and development activities; 
  • Plans and supervises maintenance of laboratory/workshop facilities; 
  • Guides technicians and artisans in their daily activities; and 
  • Performs any other duties that may be assigned to her/him from time to time. 

(c) Salary Scale: PUSS 2.1 

  1. Workshop Instructor II (1 post) 

College of Engineering, Training Workshops 

(a) Qualifications and Experience: 

Applicant should possess B.Sc. Engineering in Electronics or Telecommunications or Advanced Diploma in Electronic or Telecommunications Engineering from a recognised institution, and at least four years relevant working experience. 

(b) Main Duties: 

  • To instruct undergraduate students in College Workshops under close supervision. 
  • To assist undergraduate students in building up their practical projects 
  • To prepare materials for practical exercises. 
  • To carry out consultancy and service jobs 
  • To carry out any other duties assigned by one’s reporting Officer. 

(c) Salary Scale: PUSS 4.5 

  1. Job Title: Laboratory Technician IV (1 post) 

Institute of Marine Sciences, Zanzibar 

(a) Qualifications and Experience: 

Applicant should possess Full Technician Certificate (FTC) or Diploma in Fisheries Science and Technology or Aquaculture or Aquaculture Technology. 

(b) Main Duties: 

  • Carries out specified tasks connected with research, laboratory practical, students’ projects, consultancy and services under close supervision; 
  • Assists in the repair and maintenance of laboratory or workshop facilities; 
  • Assists senior staff in relevant fields of operation; and 
  • Performs any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by his/her senior. 

(c) Salary Scale: PUSS 1.5 

  1. Job Title: Technician III (1 post) 

Directorate of Estates Services 

(a) Qualifications and Experience: 

Applicant should possess Full Technician Certificate (FTC) or Diploma in Water Resources or Plumbing from a recognised institution with relevant working experience of at least four years in similar position in related or allied institution. 

(b) Main Duties: 

  • Carries out specified tasks connected with research, laboratory practical, students’ projects, consultancy and services under close supervision; 
  • Assists in the repair and maintenance of laboratory or workshop facilities; 
  • Assists senior staff in relevant fields of operation; and 
  • Performs any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by his/her senior. 

(c) Salary Scale: PGSS 3.1 

  1. Job Title: Artisan IV (1 post) 

College of Engineering and Technology Department of Chemical and Mining Engineering 

(a) Qualifications and Experience 

Applicant should possess Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (Form IV) plus Trade Test Grade II or CBET level II in Laboratory 

(b) Main Duties 

  • Performs specified craft jobs under close supervision. 
  • Performs (technical) cleaning of the work environment. 
  • Takes care of tools and equipment. 
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by one’s reporting officer 

(c) Salary Scale: PUSS 1.1 

 

  1. Job Title: Artist-in-Residence II (1 post) 

College of Humanities Department of Creative Arts 

(a) Qualifications and Experience 

Applicant should possess University degree in Music and a professional diploma in music with at least 10 years of professional experience as a practising artist with sufficient artistic works which label the person a competent and skilled artist in the field concerned, whose works have been reviewed and certified by a competent panel. 

(b) Duties 

  • Plans and lays the ground for the production of artistic works. 
  • Assists in the tutoring of the particular production process. 
  • Produces art works as modalities for similar art production. 
  • Performs any other duties as may be assigned by one’s reporting officer. 

(c) Salary Scale: PUSS 4.5

indicate the College/ School and Departments to which they apply. (ii) Certificates from foreign Universities should be verified by the 

Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU). (iii) Certificate from foreign examination bodies for Ordinary or Advance level education should be verified by the National Examination Council of Tanzania (NECTA). (iv) Presentation of forged certificates & other information will 

necessitate to legal action. (v) Applicants currently employed in the Public Service should channel their application letters through their respective employers. Non- disclosure of such status will lead to automatic disqualification. 

(vi) All applicants should indicate the positions they apply on top of the 

envelope. (vii) Applicants must be citizens of Tanzania with an age not above 45
