WHO WE ARE

The National Housing and Building Research Agency (NHBRA) is a Government Executive Agency, which was launched on 1st September 2001. The Agency is under the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development. Its offices are located in Kinondoni District, Dar es Salaam, Mwenge area along Sam Nujoma Road, about 400m off Ali Hassan Mwinyi Road.

FUNCTIONS OF NHBRA

i. To conduct research on building materials and building technology at applied level.

ii. To collaborate with Central and Local Government Authorities, NGOs, CBOs, Development Partners and individuals in the formulation and training of grass-root building construction and production teams/brigades.

iii. To promote capacity building (i.e. technical, financial, and managerial) of all actors involved in shelter delivery and Human Settlements Development.

iv. To ensure that Planning, Legislation, Building Regulations, Standards and other controls are consistent with capabilities, needs and aspirations of various sectors of the population.

v. To promote the production and use of local and affordable building materials.

vi. To demonstrate the use of local building materials.

vii. To advice the government and the public on matters pertaining to housing and human settlements development issues.
