About National Service
NATIONAL SERVICE
Establishment
National Service was established on 10th July 1963 emanating from the ideas of the Father of the Nation, the late President Julius K Nyerere who once said ” National Service is the demand made by the Nation on youth and youth response in fulfilling their duty in building the Nation”.
Purpose
To overcome the colonial legacy;
To overcome ethnic and social cleavage;
To imbue youth with patriotism;
To Impart skills.
Legal Mandate
National Service is operating under a set of laws passed by the parliament ‘National Service Act No. 16 of 1964 (Re 2002)’.
Vision
Through the National Service, Tanzania is envisaged to be a country whose youths are well nurtured so as to constitute a productive part of the society which has a high sense of:-
Confidence;
Self-discipline;
Patriotism;
Brotherhood;
Co-operation;
Responsibility.
Mission
To equip Tanzania youth with the requisite knowledge, skills and culture values which will enable them to contribute positively to the social-economic development as well as to the Defence and security of the Nation.
Objective
To build national Unity;
To carry out economic activity.

Discipline; Prepare youth to have a willing obedience.
Integrity; High quality of honest and strong moral principles.
Diligence; Execution of duties carefully and thoroughly.
