About The National Economic Empowerment Council – NEEC

National Economic Empowerment Council (NEEC) is a Government Agency established by an Act No. 16 of 2004 as a way forward to speed up the process of empowering the Tanzanians economically. The Council is charged with the responsibilities of facilitating designing, planning, supervising, monitoring and evaluation and coordinating all economic empowerment activities. It is also charged with mobilizing resources and managing special funds for economic empowerment activities. Economic Empowerment is one of the vehicles to achieve the MKUKUTA, the MDG and ultimately the Vision 2025.

Since independence, Tanzania has tried to develop and adopt several policies and strategies which aimed at developing the Nation and enable its people to participate in the management of their economy. Such policies and strategies include the Arusha Declaration, Decentralization, Trade Liberalization, and Privatization of State Enterprises. Although these policies did not fully meet the intended objectives, they paved the way for national building, peace, stability and unity which are a big asset for economic development.

The primary users of NEEC services and outputs are groups of individuals, associations and co-operatives engaged in various economic activities; research and academic institutions; and government departments.

NEEC mobilises resources from within and outside the country and we invite interested partners to join our efforts in achieving the noble vision of empowering Tanzanians.
