National examinations body, Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) will this Friday release results of 2019 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).
The Ministry of Education and Sports says the event which will take place at Kampala Parents School, will be presided over by the Minister of Education and Sports Janet Museveni.
“The First lady and Minister of Education and Sports will preside over the release of the 2019 Primary Leaving Examination results on Friday 17th January,2020 at Kampala Parents School Main hall, 11am,” reads a statement by the Ministry.
Today, Wednesday afternoon at 3pm at Nakasero Statehouse, UNEB will brief the Education Minister on the pupil’s performance.
A total of 695,793 candidates registered to sit last year’s examination from 13,475 centres as compared to 671,923 from 13,072 centres in 2018 which represents an increase of 23,870 (3.6%) candidates.
Out of the registered 695,793 candidates, 1,259 are special needs with various forms of disabilities. Also, 62 of the registered candidates are inmates from Luzira Upper Prison.
In 2018, Social Studies was the best performed subject passed by 95.5% of the total number of learners who sat the exam. Only 77% of the learners passed Mathematics.
UNEB said then that in English and Mathematics, performance was poor, especially in questions which required application of knowledge in problem solving.
The same year saw 10.5% of the registered learners pass in Division one, 40.6% in Division two, 25.9% in Division three, 16.6% in Division four and 9.4% fail. More boys passed in Division one compared to the girls.
