VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT – LABORATORY TECHNICIAN
ARC is looking for qualified, self-driven and committed individuals – for the position of LABORATORY TECHNICIAN.

PRIMARY PURPOSE
Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct laboratory exams according to Rwandan Ministry of Health protocols and guidelines
  • Verify and maintain all laboratory materials and equipment ensuring good condition
  • Record all laboratory results in their corresponding register, and provide timely test results sheets to different Health Center services
  • Monitor and provide routine maintenance to ensure hygiene of all laboratory materials and equipment
  • Bring sputum of multi-resistant TB cases to National Reference Laboratory as needed with maximum precautions to avoid contamination
  • Bring to “National transfusion center” samples of incompatible rhesus for Combs Test and if necessary buy and bring Gamma Globulin substance
  • Ensure proper storage and maintenance of cold-chain
  • Bring samples for CD4 and viral load, count and RPR to Hospital Laboratory as required
  • Take quality control samples to District Hospital on monthly basis
  • Take blood samples, urines samples, stool, sputum according to lab exams prescribed and per guideline
  • Ensure infection control and prevention following national and international guidelines

Minimum qualifications:
At least A1 Diploma in laboratory sciences from a recognized university with full registration and current practicing license with relevant professional body (Rwanda Allied Health Professional Council)At least 2 years’ working experience in a human laboratory in a low-resource, fast-paced setting, working with vulnerable/displaced persons
Analytical and organizational skills/experience with health data
Demonstrated knowledge of Health Information Systems, HIV protocols and Rwandan Ministry of Health protocols and guidelines
Excellent organizational and administrative skills
Good oral/writing skills in Kinyarwanda and English or French; and computer literacy
Experience working in refugee situation in Rwanda

NURSE
ARC is looking for qualified, self-driven and committed individuals – for the position of NURSE

PRIMARY PURPOSE
Key responsibilities:

  • Fill client file and register book for each patient who comes in for consultation
  • Interview patients to obtain information that will guide diagnosis with though physical examination of the patient while in consultation
  • Write all lab exams and findings in patient file and in register book
  • Prescribe treatment for the patient consulted with extra attention on doses and side effects
  • Make decision on which patient can be referred to medical doctor
  • Make sure the consultation activities start by the scheduled time and finish when the last patient is consulted
  • Perform PIT when it is necessary, and report all HIV-positive cases to HIV Program
  • Ensure FP is fully integrated in consultation
  • Maintain medical materials and equipment
  • Coordinate with other health staff on self-assessment of clinical skills and challenges.
  • Perform recordkeeping procedures when registering patients according to health center protocols
  • Follow up on patients that he/she has consulted and hospitalized.
  • Coordinate with other health staff on self-assessment of clinical skills and challenges.
  • Organize, complete, and manage patient data files according to confidentiality/organizational protocols
  • Provide information to each patient details his/her conditions, medications and health education

  • Experience in collecting patient data for health systems monitoring purposes.

RE-ADVERTISEMENT – MIDWIFE (MAHAMA -KIREHE)
ARC is looking for a qualified, self-driven and committed individual to join its Mahama Field office and program, in Kirehe District – in the position of Midwife, based FULL TIME in Mahama – Kirehe district.
PRIMARY PURPOSE

  • Interview patients and provide physical examination to guide diagnosis
  • Promote and organize ANC (Ante-Natal Care) and PNC (Post Natal Care)
  • Carry out deliveries according to MoH and international health standards
  • Understand and use all maternity equipment and tools (extractor, MVA, delivery bed, partogram, resuscitation machine)
  • Perform postpartum examinations and treatments to ensure that patients and infants are responding normally.
  • Administer medications (e.g. ergometrine injection) after delivery under supervision of Head Nurse / Medical Doctor
  • Discuss cases with Medical Doctor to ensure they are appropriately and holistically managed.
  • Educate patients in different health and nutrition topics including diet in pregnancy and lactation and basic prenatal and post-natal health practices including hygiene
  • Maintain Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) standards in the maternity ward
  • Manage referrals for complicated pregnancies, to be referred to District Hospital with Senior Health
  • Coordinator and/or Medical Doctor approval
  • Provide projection of gamma globulin that will be needed based on tests and in case of rhesus incompatibility, request gamma-globulin within 48 hours, and make sure it is administered promptly
  • Daily maintain and manage records for pregnant women, deliveries, and postpartum mothers
  • Provide obstetrics data and statistics to the Head Nurse and Data officer on a routine and ongoing basis for reporting purposes
  • Provide family planning services to clients, including counseling, sensitization on family planning methods, dispensing contraceptives, and follow-up
  • Conduct informal and formal training for Community health workers in charge of maternal health
  • Conduct training for nurses on Obstetric/Gynecological practices and standards
  • Coordinate with other health staff on self-assessments of obstetrical skills and challenges
  • Coordinate with other health staff on referral of obstetrics patients to other needed health services
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Expected qualifications:

  • A1 degree in midwifery, preferably a background in nursing
  • 3 years minimum experience in midwifery in Rwanda
  • Registration with the National Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Knowledge of newborn vital signs, family planning methods
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Health standards and protocols for maternal/child health and obstetric health
  • Ability to provide Emergency Obstetrics and Newborn Care (EmONC) training to health staff and CHWs
  • Knowledge of the regional political and social conditions
  • Kinyarwanda, English, and French oral/writing skills, Kiswahili oral skills also preferred
  • Excellent organizational, administrative and management skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
  • Experience working in protracted refugee situation and/or previous experience in Rwanda health system a plus
  • Experience in managing and working with a multicultural staff
  • Strong participatory leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to motivate and counsel staff working in a refugee camp environment
