The United Nations World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. The mission of WFP is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger in our lifetimes. Every day, WFP works worldwide to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.
The United Nations World Food Programme – Ghana Country Office is looking for an experienced Demand Creation Consultant to develop and lead the implementation of a comprehensive strategy to create demand for fortified foods particularly in areas with high levels of malnutrition which are mainly difficult-to-access rural areas of Ghana.
The strategy will be developed within the framework of a nutrition-sensitive value chains programme aimed at addressing nutrition problems through market-based approaches. The programme supports the production of locally available nutritious foods including fortified foods by facilitating linkages between food processors and smallholder famers and the consumption of these foods through social and behaviour change communication. In addition to supporting the production and commercialisation of the fortified foods, WFP will source them from local processors and have them delivered via business-to-business (B2B) distribution channels to areas with high levels of malnutrition for women and children.
Conduct barrier and landscape analyses of fortified foods in the country particularly in the intervention areas; distribution systems for fortified foods; characterisation of consumers of fortified foods and stakeholder analysis including manufacturing and distribution actors.
Support the development of demand creation strategy; implementation plan; and information, education, and communication materials for fortified foods.
Lead the implementation of the demand creation strategy in the intervention areas.
Conduct strategic sessions with WFP and partners to present progress of the implementation of the demand creation activities, lessons learned and recommendations for improvement.
Provide insights on how to strengthen partnerships with stakeholders in the production, distribution, marketing, promotion and regulation of fortified foods in the country.
