Short-Term Grants and Scholarships
University Winter Courses offered in Germany for Foreign Students and Graduates
With these grants students and graduate students may complete German language and cultural studies courses in Germany during January/February of each year.
Target Group: Bachelor students who have completed at least two academic years at the start of the application period, Master students, doctoral candidates with a prior knowledge of German
Requirements: B1 German proficiency (a certificate must be uploaded together with the application as proof of German language proficiency)
Duration: 6 weeks
Value of the grant: Travel allowance, health insurance for the entire stay in Germany, and a once-off scholarship payment of 1875 EUR.
The application deadline is usually 15 August each year.

Master Grants and Scholarships
Helmut-Schmidt-Programme (Master Scholarships for Public Policy and Good Governance)
In the Helmut-Schmidt-Programme, the DAAD awards funding for preselected Master courses in the law, economics, development and public management fields at certain public German higher education institutions.
Target Group: Graduates with a first degree in the above mentioned fields that is not older than 6 years at the time of application
Value of the scholarship: Travel allowance, health insurance for the entire stay in Germany, and a monthly stipend of 850 EUR paid directly to the scholarship holder
Application takes place between June and July of each year with study commencing the following year.
The application deadline is usually 31 July each year.

Development-Related Postgraduate Courses (EPOS)
In the EPOS (Development-related Postgraduate Courses) programme, the DAAD awards funding for preselected Master courses in development-related fields at certain German Higher Education Institutions.
Target group: Graduates with a first degree that is not older than 6 years at the time of application and two years’ post-degree work experience, preferably in the field of the planned Master course
Value of the scholarship: Travel allowance, health insurance for the entire stay in Germany, and a monthly stipend of 850 EUR paid directly to the scholarship holder

The DAAD awards funding for Master courses and shorter, complementary postgraduate courses in the Architecture and Arts fields in Germany.
Target Group: Graduates with a first degree in Architecture and the Arts that is not older than 6 years

Doctoral Grants and Scholarships
Research Grants for Doctoral Candidates and Young Academics and Scientists
With these research grants, doctoral candidates may conduct short-term or long-term doctoral research, or complete a full PhD in any field of study in Germany.
Target Group: Doctoral candidates who hold a Master degree that is not older than 6 years
Value of the scholarship: Travel allowance, health insurance for the entire stay in Germany, and a monthly stipend of 1200 EUR paid directly to the grant holder

Research Grants – Bi-nationally Supervised Doctoral Degrees
With this research grant, doctoral candidates are awarded funding for research phases in any field of study at any state or state-recognised German higher education institution of their choice. The grant holder is enrolled as a PhD candidate in their home country and obtains the final PhD degree in the home country, with a large part of the research having been conducted in Germany during the research phases. The grant holder will thus have two supervisors, one in Germany and one in the home country.
Target Group: Doctoral candidates who hold a Master degree that is not older than 6 years
Value of the scholarship: Travel allowance, health insurance for the entire stay in Germany, and a monthly stipend of 1200 EUR paid directly to the grant holder

Postdoctoral Grants and Scholarships
Research Stays for University Academics and Scientists
With the Research Stay, the grant holder can conduct postdoctoral research with DAAD funding in any field of study at any state or state-recognised German Higher Education Institution of their choice.
Target Group: University teachers and established academics and scientists
Duration: 1 – 3 months
Value of the scholarship: Travel allowance, health insurance for the entire stay in Germany, and a monthly stipend of 2000 – 2150 EUR paid directly to the grant holder
