ARUSHA DISTRICT COUNCIL HEADQUARTERS:
The Arusha District Headquarters are located in Kiutu Ward, Engorika Village, Sekei Mkabala area and Mount Meru International Hotel about 300 meters from the Moshi – Arusha-Namanga highway.
SOURCE OF ARUSHA COUNCIL:
Arusha District Council officially started on 01.07.2007 after the division of Meru District Council into two Meru District Council and Arusha Council.
Arusha Council is one of the seven Arusha Regional Councils located at the foot of Mount Meru bordered by Meru Council on the East, Monduli Council on the West, Longido Council on the North West, Simanjiro Council on Manyara Region for on the South side. Arusha Council has surrounded the city of Arusha on all sides.
Arusha Council has an area of 1446,692 square kilometers located west of Mount Meru 4,562 meters above sea level which is the second highest mountain in Tanzania after Mount Kilimanjaro at 5,890 meters.
Arusha Council lies between Latitude 3000- 3040 ’South Equator and Longitude 36015’-360 55’ East.
AREA SIZE:
The district has an area of 1,446.692 square kilometers. Major land uses in the District include: agriculture, housing, trade, mining, livestock / grazing, natural tourism and small industries and trade and forest reserves.
Where, forest reserve has an area of 54.17 square kilometers, agricultural land is 446.56 square kilometers, grazing area occupies an area of 506.01 square kilometers the remaining land area with an average size of 440.2 square kilometers is used for other activities such as trade, housing and mining.
