Bagamoyo District Council is one of the 9 Councils in the 7 Districts of the Coast Region. Bagamoyo Council is made up of Division 2, 11 Wards, 8 Villages and 174 Suburbs

DISTRICT GEOGRAPHY
Bagamoyo District Council covers an area of ​​945 square kilometers which is a land area.

LORDS OF THE AREA
The District Council borders the Indian Ocean to the east, South to Kibaha and Kinondoni Districts, West and north to Chalinze District Council. The District Headquarters is located in Bagamoyo town (historic town / stone town) 65 kilometers north of Dar es Salaam.

CLIMATE
Bagamyo District Council receives an average of 800 mm – 1200 mm of rainfall per year. The district has two rainy seasons which are the Autumn Season which runs from October – December and the Spring Season which runs from March to June.

NUMBER OF PEOPLE
According to the 2012 Population and Housing Census, the District Council had a total population of 97,660 (48,603 men and 49,057 women). Given the 2% population growth, Bagamoyo District Council for 2016 is estimated to have 107,288 people (53,395 men and 53,893 women).

Citizens’ GDP has been increasing year on year as follows:

The Council’s aim is to improve productive activities including Agriculture, Livestock and Beekeeping, Community Services and Road Infrastructure so that the GDP per annum for 2016/2017 will be more than Tsh 858,126.

ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES

The main economic activities in Bagamoyo District Council include;

• Agriculture; Rice, Maize, Cotton, Sesame, Pineapple, Cashew, Sweet Potato, Coconut and Mangoes.

• Fishing in the Indian Ocean, the Ruvu River as well as digging dams.

• Livestock.

• Harvesting of salt along with the algae crop.

• Natural Tourism (Beautiful Indian beaches, marine life, mangrove reserve, coral garden)

• Cultural tourism (Historic sites, paintings, sculptures, traditional dances, traditional healers, costumes)
The activities that lead to the economic development of the District Council include agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries and the sale of various mineral resources from the coast; Mapinga, Magomeni, Makurunge, Kiromo, Yombo and Kitame.
