About Kakonko District Council (DC)
Kakonko District is among the 6 Districts of Kigoma Region. It was established by the Government announcement of GN. 287 of the year 2011 after dividing Kibondo District to create Kakonko and Kibondo District. Moreover Kakonko DC was founded on 08/3/2013 and advertised in the government newspaper for GN.42. Kakonko District Council was launched by the Kigoma Regional Commissioner Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Issa Machibya July 19th, 2013. The district headquarters are in the town of Kakonko.
This town lies a distance of 48 Km north of the town of Kibondo in Kigoma to Mwanza highway. In addition it is the city that has harnessed the 5 villages that existed before (Kakonko, Mbizi, Itumbiko, Muganza and Kanyonza), City of Kakonko have a population of around 21,827 according to the Census of Population and Housing 2012. Kakonko District has attractive natural resources that are good for investment.
