About Rufiji District Council (DC)
Rufiji District Council is one of the nine Coastal Regional Councils. On the north it is bordered by Kisarawe and Kibiti District Councils, on the south it is bordered by Kilwa District Council on the east it is bordered by Kibiti District Council, on the west it is bordered by Morogoro Region.
Rufiji District is divided by the mighty Rufiji River from the West to the East in the Indian Ocean. The geography of this District is divided into two main zones. The flood zone of the Rufiji River (Flood Plain), is a region that receives frequent floods with a length of km. 130 from West to East with an average width between km. 7-35, there are more than 13 lakes / lakes (oxbow lakes), the second zone is the highland / mountains. Rufiji District receives an average of 800 – 1,200 millimeters of rainfall per year. The minimum temperature is 20 degrees Celsius and the maximum is 33 degrees Celsius
Rufiji District Council covers an area of 9,485 square kilometers for water and land area.
Rufiji District Council is made up of 13 wards, 38 villages and 177 suburbs (according to the 2012 Population and Housing Census with a population of 94,626 (45,683 men and 48,943 women) and the annual population increase is 0.7 percent. 2017 District has a population of 106,227 (51,284 males and 54,943 females) an average of 4.4 people
In the general election held on 25/10/2015, the result was that the Member of Parliament elected was from the Revolutionary Party (CCM). In the case of councilors a total of 18 councilors were elected where from the Revolutionary Party there are 10 and through the CUF party there are 8 councilors. CUF
